WhatsApp for Mac adds video and audio group calling

The updated WhatsApp application for Mac now introduces the ability to conduct group audio and video calls. This new version of the app boasts a revamped user interface that will be instantly recognizable to users familiar with macOS iMessage.

WhatsApp for Mac adds video and audio group calling

WhatsApp has unveiled a freshly designed native app for macOS, granting access to group calls on Apple's desktop operating system. This version of the app facilitates video calls with a capacity of up to eight participants and audio calls accommodating as many as 32 individuals. Notably, both of these functionalities maintain the same end-to-end encryption that is a hallmark of WhatsApp on other platforms. This app had previously been available in an open beta phase. Beyond video and audio calling capabilities, users now have the convenience of dragging and dropping files into their chats. Additionally, the app has been enhanced to display more chat history. The redesign is aimed at providing a user experience that feels familiar to Mac users, aligning with the larger screen dimensions of desktop systems. The app's interface draws significant inspiration from macOS' integrated Messages application, departing from its previous design. As of now, the app must be directly downloaded from WhatsApp. However, Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, has indicated that the app will soon be accessible through the macOS App Store.
